Hopatcong restaurant is the site of a drug bust again

A Hopatcong restaurant is in the news again for yet another drug crime near its premises.  Last week, a Paterson man was arrested in the area and charged with possession of heroin, intent to distribute heroin, the distribution of heroin near a park zone and resisting arrest.

A few weeks ago, the restaurant's owner was charged with running a heroin distribution ring. Though the restaurant has since reopened for business, these two men are facing very serious drug crimes.

The most recent case involves a 25-year-old man who allegedly attempted to sell heroin to undercover police officers just before the lunch hour. He attempted to flee, but officers caught him and arrested him.

Police have reported that the man had about 20 bricks of heroin, which amounts to a street value of about $10,000.

Since he is currently on parole, the man is not eligible for bail. Currently he is imprisoned and waiting for a hearing to take place.

Earlier this month, the restaurant’s owner was arrested for allegedly managing a heroin ring. He was reported to travel frequently to Newark where he picked up heroin that he allegedly supplied to distributors. According to police statements, the restaurant owner often made heroin deals right from the parking lot of his restaurant.

Drug trafficking and drug distribution charges are among the most serious drug offenses a person can face in New Jersey. Convictions for such offenses can result in very lengthy criminal sentences. In many cases, however, criminal defense attorneys are successful in finding holes in the evidence. Defendants of drug crimes should seek legal counsel in order to protect their rights and reach the best possible results in their cases.
