New Jersey man charged in heroin bust

A 25-year-old man was taken into custody after police raided his home and reportedly recovered a pistol, material for packaging and a substance believed to be heroin on Aug. 8. The man was the target of a joint investigation conducted by a special investigations police unit in Gloucester Township and police from Winslow Township. Police claim that the man was distributing heroin in significant quantities from his home. The special investigation unit and SWAT team executed the raid after receiving a search warrant.

Officers claim to have recovered marijuana inside the home as well. An unidentified woman and young child were inside the home during the search. The woman was not charged with any crime and was released by authorities. A social worker was on-site to provide counseling for the woman and child.

The accused man faces charges that include possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and prohibited possession of a firearm. He was allegedly committing these acts while on electronically monitored house arrest. Investigators claim the suspect sold heroin to undercover officers as well. The man facing these charges may benefit from speaking with a criminal defense lawyer as quickly as possible. His lawyer may focus on challenging the legality of the investigation or the warrant that lead to the raid.

Criminal defense lawyers typically challenge the merits of the prosecution's case by attempting to uncover misconduct or discrepancies that may result in the charges being reduced or the case being dismissed entirely. Some lawyers might be able guide defendants through arraignment, the discovery phase, the preliminary hearing and the trial. Legal counsel may also be effective in negotiating a plea bargain that is favorable to the defendant.
