Drunk Driving Accidents Can be Deadly in Metro Areas

Car accidents caused by drunk drivers are often deadly, or may cause catastrophic injuries to innocent pedestrians and other motorists. This is especially so when such accidents take place in busy urban areas.

A recent incident is all too common. A young driver who caused a car accident was driving at a high rate of speed when trying to pass another vehicle. The driver crashed into a third vehicle that was attempting to turn and then ricocheted off the first vehicle being passed. The driver then collided with a support beam. Tests showed that the driver who caused this multi-car collision was drunk and high.

Both the driver and a passenger were hospitalized. The driver suffered serious injuries to a hip and leg, requiring surgery. The passenger's injuries were not as severe. The driver of the vehicle that was attempting to turn was treated for a collapsed lung, shattered arm and internal bleeding. The other driver was treated for a lacerated arm.

A personal injury attorney can help victims of drunk driving accidents obtain financial compensation for their injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, property damage and wrongful death. Sometimes punitive or exemplary damages apply which are designed to punish the person who made the poor choice to drink and drive.

It is also important to explore possible liability on the part of a restaurant or bar that may have ignored the signs of someone who had too many drinks, and then left for the parking lot. This is known as the Dram Shop Law, and is often an additional source of recovery victims of such accidents.
