Trenton man arrested on drugs, weapons charges

A Trenton man, 41, was arrested last week as part of an investigation into drug trafficking, members of the Special Investigations Unit told The Times of Trenton.

The man was driving his car near the intersection of Federal and South Broad streets in mid-afternoon, when the SIU pulled him over.

They later obtained a search warrant for his Washington Street home. There they claimed to find a loaded .45-caliber handgun behind a pillow and some ammunition covered by a diaper.

In the kitchen, they found a bag allegedly containing 10 grams of powder cocaine, as well as a digital scale and a small quantity of marijuana.

They also found more than $1,100 in cash in the kitchen and another $400 in the bedroom, they said. The suspect was carrying $165 when he was arrested.

He now faces serious criminal charges, including drug possession with intent to distribute and several weapons offenses. At the time the newspaper article was written, he was being held at the Mercer County Correction Center. Bail had been set at $125,000.

In an unrelated matter, a high school student also faces drugs and weapons charges after he allegedly threatened to kill fellow students.

The 17-year-old was reportedly beaten up in a fight at Trenton Central High School, left the school to retrieve a shotgun, and was returning to the school to shoot those responsible for the beating, he purportedly told a cabbie.

The cab driver called police and told them the boy had run from his cab with the weapon.

A search of the boy's bedroom by police later revealed more than a thousand packets of heroin, as well as ammunition, officials said.

The boy was arrested on South Broad Street and now faces a variety of weapons and drug crime charges in the juvenile criminal justice system.
