Police: Hamilton Township drunk-driving accident injures three

An alleged drunk-driving accident in Hamilton Township late last week reportedly left three people injured, the Times of Trenton reports.

The three-vehicle crash in the township was on Nottingham Way near Sterling Avenue shortly before 2:30 last Friday afternoon.

Police report that a 65-year-old man was driving west on Nottingham Way when he tried to avoid a car driven by an 18-year-old who was stopped in the inside westbound lane to make a left-hand turn.

Law enforcement officials said the man swerved to avoid the young woman's vehicle, but struck its right rear bumper with the driver's side of his car. His Chrysler then hit a curb and spun into the eastbound traffic, where it was struck by a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old Trenton man.

Emergency crews were called to rescue a 49-year-old passenger from the Chrysler which apparently started the chain reaction of crashes.

The Chrysler's driver and passenger were both transported to Capital Health Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was taken to Hamilton's Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

The young woman and her passenger, a 20-year-old man, went to the Hamilton facility for evaluation of possible injuries as well.

The 65-year-old driver was later charged for driving while drunk, reckless driving and aggravated assault.

There was no word in the newspaper account about the medical conditions of the injured.

However, anyone injured in a Trenton car accident caused by a drunk driver should contact an attorney experienced in holding accountable those responsible for damages.
