2 taken to the hospital following New Jersey car accident

Two New Jersey residents were transported by helicopter to the hospital after being hurt in a car accident. The car accident occurred on March 21 along County Route 513 and was first reported to police at approximately 12:40 p.m. Authorities were forced to close the roadway for approximately one hour following the incident.

The crash involved a 65-year-old man from Chester who was driving a pickup truck. The pickup truck driver's vehicle collided with another car that was being driven by a 25-year-old man from Long Valley. Allegedly, the pickup truck collided with the car close to the centerline of the roadway. The pickup was traveling westbound, and the car was traveling eastbound just prior to the incident.

The collision was so severe that emergency responders had to extricate both drivers from their vehicles. The older man suffered chest and abdominal injuries. The 25-year-old suffered scrapes and head wounds.

As of March 23, authorities were continuing to investigate the cause of this car accident. Therefore, neither driver has been issued a summons relating to the crash nor have any charges been filed against the drivers. Considering that both drivers were injured and required medical care, depending on who is ultimately deemed responsible for this crash, one or more of the victims may be entitled to pursue a personal injury action.

While it is likely that the authorities will blame one or the other driver in this incident, this does not mean that both do not have a valid personal injury claim. Indeed, although police investigations weigh heavily in civil court when determining liability in an accident, it is sometimes possible that an injured victim can show his or her injuries were caused by another factor. Manufacturing and auto defects as well as unsafe roadways are just a couple of examples of alternative explanations for the cause of such a New Jersey crash.
