New Jersey man charged with 10 weapons and drug offenses

A New Jersey man who was accused of being a gang member was detained on Aug. 19. Sources indicate that the man had been wanted for several drug-related charges in addition for failing to pay child support that had been ordered by the court.

Police officers were reportedly granted a warrant to search a residence on Elmer Street in Trenton. The authorities claim that 28 decks of heroin, 13 bags of marijuana, drug packaging materials, cash and a weapon with a defaced serial number were seized from the home. The accused man, who was found in a bedroom located in the basement, was taken into custody at approximately 8:30 a.m.

He was ultimately charged with 10 counts of drug and weapon-related offenses. The man was being held at a local jail on $100,000 bail. The Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and Counter Gang Unit were reportedly involved in the investigation.

Those who were charged with weapon or drug offenses could potentially face a number of serious consequences that could include jail time and probation. Additionally, convictions for these types of crimes also appear on the person's criminal record, which may make it difficult for the accused person to put their life back together once they are released. A criminal defense attorney could advocate a defendant's case by possibly uncovering evidence that reveals that the authorities did not properly secure a search warrant or did not follow proper protocol. For example, if a warrant was not properly issued, the attorney could potentially have the charges dropped or suppress the evidence seized during the illegal search.
