3 men face drug charges in New Jersey

Pursuant to a New Jersey State Police investigation, law enforcement officials took three men into custody on drug charges on Oct. 22 in Kearny. Reportedly, each of the men is charged with possession of 2.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Moreover, the three individuals are facing charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

According to authorities, investigators discovered 5.5. pounds of methamphetamine in the possession of the three men, a 46-year-old New York man, a 30-year-old Kansas man and a 37-year-old Kansas man. The three men were booked into a Kearny jail. In the event that they are convicted, each man may face up to 20 years in prison.

When individuals in New Jersey face a drug charge as serious as the ones filed in this particular case, they may be forced to suffer more than just fines, incarceration and probation. If convicted, they may also encounter relationship trouble with family and friends and many seemingly insurmountable obstacles when trying to obtain a job or establish a successful career. That, in large part, is because of the criminal record that becomes attached to a felony drug offender's name upon conviction. Therefore, the best course of action for many individuals accused of serious drug crimes is to retain a criminal defense lawyer and marshal together an earnest and exhaustive defense to contest the charges.

One method of defense is to scrutinize the actions of the law enforcement officials who allegedly discovered the drugs and who detained the accused individuals. If there is evidence that these officials did not act according to protocol, then the defense lawyer may question the credibility of those law enforcement officials. In this way, the defense could cast doubt on the state's case.
