As a New Jersey resident, you know that the weather can and does change without notice. For example, the summer months are typically hot and dry. However, there are times when heavy rain moves into the area. The same holds true for strong winds, snow and ice.
As a driver, you must know what it takes to remain safe when navigating the roadways in inclement weather. During the summer months, this means having a clear idea of how to remain safe in heavy rain and strong winds.
Here are some of the many things you should do:
-- Slow down. It doesn't matter if you are in a hurry, you need to slow down to ensure that you avoid trouble on the road.
-- Leave more space between other vehicles. You should never drive in close proximity to other vehicles, especially when the weather conditions are less than ideal.
-- Keep both hands on the wheel. This is one of the best things you can do to maintain control of your vehicle at all times.
-- Avoid distractions. There is never a good time to drive distracted, as it increases the odds of an accident.
As you attempt to remain safe when driving in inclement weather, other motorists may not be nearly as cautious. This is a major problem, as it can lead to a serious accident.
If you are involved in a crash caused by another driver, move your car to the side of the road and wait for help to arrive. Once your medical concerns are taken care of, you can turn your attention to your legal rights.
