A tragic car accident in New Jersey took two lives when a van plunged into a freezing lake in the middle of January.
The crash happened on Route 130, which runs next to Olympia Lakes. Two people were in a van, waiting to drive across Route 130.
At the same time, a two-door sedan was coming down the road with a 29-year-old man behind the wheel. That vehicle went out of control for reasons that police are not yet reporting.
When it did, it slammed into the van hard enough to smash it up over the guardrail. It then fell down the embankment on the other side and into the freezing water.
In the van was a married couple. The husband was 52 years old and his wife was 50 years old. While multiple fire departments and water rescue squads responded to the crash and were eventually able to get the couple and their vehicle out of the water, both passed away. Life-saving efforts were made and the couple was rushed to Lourdes Medical Center, which is located in Willingboro, but it was announced that they had not survived.
The investigation is still underway and the 29-year-old driver hasn't been charged with anything at this time, but authorities did say they're trying to determine if any criminal actions led to the wreck and caused those two deaths.
When two loved ones are killed in one accident, it can leave the family reeling in shock. As medical bills and funeral costs pile up, they need to know their rights to financial compensation. That doesn't erase the pain of the loss, but it leaves them free to focus on things other than the financial impact during such a trying time.
